I've been a bad blogger :( I didn't post any new recipes last week...not one! Sorry! But I had a good reason- I was extra busy all week preparing for the 10th annual stART on the Street festival in Worcester, MA. I made over 400 cake pops in 7 different flavors (with help from Matt of course) and guess what! They all sold out!! I was so worried that I would come home with tons of cake pops so I couldn't be happier with the turnout! I'm not quite sure how many people were at the festival but they said they were expecting 50,000 people! There were so many vendors plus a huge food court and tons of live music. Unfortunately, we were so busy that I only got to leave my booth for about 5 minutes!
Anyways, I made a display for each flavor to put on the table at my booth. Then I had some loose cake pops on the table and the rest in coolers. It was a beautiful day so I didn't really have to worry about them melting. These bouquets were a hit so I decided to offer them for sale on my website in two sizes
My new seasonal flavor: Pumpkin Spice with maple pumpkin buttercream frosting! Everyone raved about these! I used edible markers to draw the faces on the pumpkins and a little piece of tootsie roll for the stem. And what's Halloween without candy corn?? This is a regular size bouquet which holds 12 cake pops.
The Chocolate Peanut Butter cake pops and the Gluten Free Red Velvet cake pops. The chocolate peanut butter sold out first!
Funfetti cake pops and Pineapple cake pops. Kids loved the funfetti ones! (More adults than kids bought cake pops which I found funny) :)
Vanilla cake pops and Chocolate cake pops. I think these ones and the Pumpkin Spice came out the prettiest. :)
My dad and Matt during the set-up. My dad was great and figured out how to get my sign on the top of the tent! He got a free cake pop :) My mom and I shared a space. She sold her crocheted hats, scarves, wine bottle holders, etc and did well too!
My small table with a few of the displays. We were so busy at one point that Matt, my sister, and I were all taking money and handing out cake pops!
My mascots!! Harvey and Levi showing their Wicked Yummy Sweets spirit!
Such a good mascot! Too bad his sweatshirt was a little bit small...I like to think that it made him look jacked rather than like a fatty. Poor puggle.
The best helper ever! Here is Matt (sprinkle king and cake pop wrapper extraordinaire) selling the last few cake pops of the day! He was so great to not get frustrated when I was up wicked late baking/decorating/making a mess or when I asked him to spend his only days off making cake pops with me and coming to the festival! :)
Overall, it was a great day and I will definitely be doing it again next year! Don't forget to check out Wicked Yummy Sweets to see more pictures and all the flavors that are available for cake pops! Thanks to everyone who helped me out by making cake pops, spreading the word, setting up my booth, handing out business cards, convincing people to buy 6 cake pops instead of one, walking/watching my dog all day, buying my cake pops, and supporting me! It was awesome!
Love, Monica

This is really cool - they look wonderful! I have a question for you. Awhile back, I had been looking into selling my cake balls to the public at a fair or something like this, but from what I read, I understood that you need to be cooking in a certified kitchen, and it is against the law to sell food out of your kitchen from your home (for health reasons). Maybe this is just a NJ thing? Or, are you cooking in a health inspected kitchen?
ReplyDeleteHi Cindy, yes in MA you have to be serve safe certified and cook in a commercial kitchen. I rented a local commercial kitchen for a reasonable price and had to take a class a few months back to become certified in food safety. Then, in order to sell them to the public, I had to apply for a temporary food permit with the city. Lots of restrictions but it was worth it! Even after the cost of renting the kitchen, taking the class, and getting a permit, I still made a profit.
DeleteMonica, this is awesome! Please let me know if you do any fairs/festivals closer to Boston... those Red Velvet cake pops are calling my name :)
ReplyDeleteI love cake popping too! If you don't mind me asking, where did u purchase your adorable buckets?
ReplyDeleteThank you
